ANGRY ALL THE TIME? FEELING OUT OF CONTROL?
Welcome to America, 2019. Survey after survey, campaign after campaign, crime after crime, the statistics don’t lie: we are a super-angry nation, consumed by a culture and media that encourages and promotes 24/7 rage. But as Christ Followers, this is NOT! how we’re to live – or react. Join Pastor Doug for the next three weeks for “THE RAGE CAGE: Controlling the Anger in Your Life,” a 3-part Sermon Series examining those in the Bible who had great difficulty with their tempers – and how we can overcome ours. See you at ‘The Family Place!’

This week #2:  Internals…Not Externals

20 years ago, ‘Rage Against the Machine’ was one of the biggest heavy metal/alternative rock groups in the world. Formed in 1991, they sold 16 million records while using their ‘music’ to protest American capitalism, politics, Wall Street, even going to work every day. Yet in 2000, the band broke up, with one of the founders stating, “There was so much squabbling over everything – and I mean everything. We would even have fist fights over whether our t-shirts should be mauve or camouflage! It was ridiculous…we were internally combustible. It was ugly for a long time.” (A band known for rage actually raged against each other! As the Geico commercial states, “Surprising.” Not really.)
The truth is most of our deep-seated anger is rooted in ‘internals’, not externals. (Even though we convince ourselves that it’s the externals, i.e., all the bad stuff/people around us that’s making us angry and full or rage.)
Let’s revisit our old friend, Peter, and discover the ‘internals’ that drove his anger…and how he developed into the Incredible Man/Leader of God that led the Early Church.
